Sold My Dad's House!

I met Gail through a close, dear friend, and we became associated over the sale of my father's house.

My very elderly father lived in L.A. in the same house for over 50 years.  I grew up in that house.  My dad fell and broke his hip in early November.  By December it had become apparent that he would no longer be able to live alone in his house anymore, despite having a daytime caregiver 6 days a week.  So, my sister & I moved our dad to Arizona to live near me.  At that time we had no intention of selling his house, at least not right away. But, after another month we realized we did not want to continue to maintain that house, let alone worry about having a break-in or vandalism.

My dear friend mentioned our situation to Gail and asked her to put together a report on all the comparable sales in the area to give us an idea of the house's value.  

Her report was very thorough.  In fact, looking back, we were contacted by a couple of other real estate agents; one a nice neighbor and another one who put his business card in my dad's mailbox.  Gail was the only real estate person who put forth the effort and time into helping us.  That showed me that she would go the extra mile for us.

The first time we met with Gail, we spoke honestly about the house itself and about the real estate market in the area.  She was very honest with us and gave us her truthful opinion of its value and offered her recommendations on what we needed to do (and what not to do) to the house prior to putting it up for sale.

We emptied the house, painted walls and had the place thoroughly cleaned.  Gail's contacts for the cleaners, helpers and other contacts helped us to accomplish the task of getting the house ready to sell.

Based on the house's prime location as well as the comparable sales in the neighborhood, she was instrumental in helping us determine the asking price.

Prior to the house actually being put on the market, Gail had professional photographs taken and she handled all of the marketing materials as well as the listing itself.

Once the house went on the market, Gail was present for all open house events.  She spent an extensive amount of time actually at the house talking with prospective buyers.  On her recommendation, offers were not accepted during the first week the house was on the market.  Then after a week, she gathered several offers and presented them to me.  Three days later after minor negotiations, an amazing offer was accepted. And only two weeks after that, the property closed escrow.  

It was a whirlwind experience but Gail's professionalism and integrity took the stress off of me.  

Selling my family home, the place where I grew up and where so much happened throughout my life, was an emotional experience.  Gail was incredibly understanding and sensitive about that.

No matter how trivial my questions were, she was always available to answer them.  When the buyer's realtor was unavailable (which frequently happened), Gail persisted at tracking that other realtor down.

She is an outstanding realtor, and in my opinion, we got THE BEST realtor for the job.  Nobody else could have (or would have) done as much for us as she did.
